Daily Itinerary for the Chile Argentina Holiday

Day 1 - Santiago de Chile
Upon your arrival in Santiago de Chile, you will be collected at the airport and welcomed by our colleagues. During the afternoon, you’ll go on a city tour and see the highlights of Santiago de Chile in the company of a local. You will also explore the most popular streets, parks and a number of unique buildings. You’ll stay in bed and breakfast accommodation.

Day 2 - To Valparaiso & Vina del Mar
You will be collected from the hotel and transported to the Chilean coast. The harbour city of Valparaiso is located around 120 km west of the capital, Santiago. The multi-coloured wooden houses on the hills create an authentic atmosphere, while its funiculars and many flights of steps make it one of the most picturesque cities in Chile. Vina del Mar is situated nearby and is colloquially known as the ‘garden city’ because of its beauty. This well-known seaside city has a botanical garden in its centre that you will be sure to enjoy. At the end of the day, you’ll be returned to Santiago, where you will stay in bed and breakfast accommodation.

Day 3 - To San Pedro de Atacama
You will be collected and taken to the airport for your flight to Calama, from where you’ll travel to San Pedro de Atacama, a trip of about 1½ hours. In the afternoon, you will visit the Moon Valley. The Valle de la Luna is an unusual geological phenomenon. Wind and water erosion has formed extraordinary desert landscapes with the strangest of shapes in the layers of salt in this area. You’ll spend the night in San Pedro.

Chile holiday Viña del MarDay 4 - San Pedro de Atacama
Today, you will visit Atacama, one of the largest salt flats in the world, as well as Chaxa, where 3 flamingo species live. You will also visit the picturesque town of Toconao with its characteristic Atacaman bell tower, as well as villages like Socaire and the Altiplanic lagoon, located at an elevation of 4,500 m above sea level. Along the route, you will encounter awe-inspiring volcanoes. At the end of the day, you’ll be transferred back to San Pedro de Atacama, where you will spend the night in bed and breakfast accommodation.

Day 5 - San Pedro de Atacama
An early start, as you will depart at around 4 am on a trip to the Tatio geysers and enjoy breakfast during the initial hours of the excursion. You’ll roam around the geysers, which put on a magnificent show. Through a combination of subterranean streams and high temperatures, these geysers shoot water up to ten metres into the air. The minerals in the water give the geyser craters a purple, orange or white and red colour. On the way back, you will have magnificent views of volcanoes. You’ll spend the night in San Pedro again.

Day 6 - By coach to Argentina: Salta
You will travel across the border by coach to Salta in Argentina. Upon arrival at the coach station, you’ll make your own way to the hotel where you will spend the night.

Day 7 - To the Salta salt flats
Today, you will visit the salt flats for a long - but unforgettable – day. You’ll depart early in the morning from Salta and travel to San Antonia de los Cobres. This route is also known as ‘The road to the clouds’ due to the difference in elevation. Your trip will continue onwards to the Salinas Grandes, the Jujuy salt flats. Then follows the descent to Purmamarca, at the foot of the famous and colourful ‘Cerro de los Siete Colores’. At the end of this long, but thoroughly enjoyable day, you will return to Salta for the night. We recommend that you pack warm clothing and effective sun protection.

Day 8 - Day in Salta
You will have this day to explore Salta at your leisure.

Day 9 - Flight to Iguazu
You will be collected at your hotel and taken to the airport. From here, you’ll fly to Iguazu in the northeast of Argentina. Here, you will be collected and transported to your hotel, where you’ll spend the night.

Day 10 - To the falls
You will visit the Argentinean side of the falls and experience this incredible water spectacle. The waterfalls in this scenic area are surrounded by tropical plants and flowers. You’ll enter the park on a small train and cross footbridges to reach the ‘throat of the devil’. Then, you will be driven through the jungle by truck to the foot of the falls, from where you’ll board an inflatable boat. From here, you will navigate upstream towards La Garganta del Diablo. An extra set of dry clothes might come in handy. You’ll spend the night in Iguazu.
